Lego Princess Bride

Maybe I’m a little biased, but of all the Lego versions of movies floating around the Internet, I think this one of the Princess Bride is the best. If you’re a fan of the movie, you can’t help but smile watching this video. Still, I have to say that the people who make these videos probably have way too much time – and Legos – on their hands!

A Real R.O.U.S.?

Real ROUS

“Rodents Of Unusual Size? I don’t think they exist…”

Although not quite as big as the R.O.U.S. that attacked Westley in the Fire Swamp, researchers recently found a new species of giant rats in the remote Foja Mountains of western New Guinea, Indonesia. According to the article on Nationalgeographic.com, the rodents are said to be five times the size of a typical city rat! The researchers did not, however, discover any flame spurts and lightning sand in the area.

Interview with Marlena Cisco, Games Producer

Marlena CiscoIn the next few weeks, we will be posting interviews to introduce you to some of the staff at Worldwide Biggies working on The Princess Bride Game. We’ll also be talking in more detail with the team in the future for some of our “Inside The Studio” features. But for now, meet Marlena Cisco.

How long have you been working for Worldwide Biggies?

I have worked for Biggies for six months now. It has been a great experience. To wake up and get to do something you thoroughly enjoy everyday is such a blessing, and humbling experience. I have been welcomed like family since I got here.

What do you do specifically for The Princess Bride Game?

I am credited as the games producer here at WWB. Currently, I eat, drink, and live everything that has anything to do with The Princess Bride Game.

What is your favorite aspect of the game?

I love the way it has begun to take on a life of its own. The pace of the game is something that is unique and I have yet to see anything quite like it on the web. I know when it comes out, people will be interested, just because of the property that’s tied to it. Hopefully we create new fans of the movie while staying true to the spirit of a popular title.

What’s been the most fun about working on the game so far?

By far getting to work with the entire team. I love our animators, they are all SO talented. We are currently engaged in a drawing war, and I’m TOTALLY winning. WHERE YOU AT BALCO!?! Our development team looses me in a lot of meetings, but they are always willing to explain their language into something comprehensible for me, like HTML — yeah sad, I know. Also I get to work with amazingly creative and very experienced people, who I can only hope rub off on me in some way. Our contractors — All a great help and willing to deal with our ridiculous timelines, my frantic phone calls, my borage of pushbacks and daily emails. Thanks guys!

What do you think players will love — and hate — about the game?

I think people will love the way the animation has captured their movie and will hopefully strike an emotional chord. Also, I am truly interested in how the audience will react to the Miracle Max Game. Its my favorite game, and I cant wait to share it! They won’t hate anything about the game, if we have it our way!

What’s your favorite quote and character from the movie?

By far Buttercup’s: “You mocked me once, Sir. Never do it again. — I DIED THAT DAY!”

Your Questions Answered: G4TV.com Q&A

We know you’re curious about the details of the Princess Bride Game, and so are the fine people at G4TV.com. They asked their readers what questions they had about the game, and our game designers gave them answers:

G4TV: By far the most popular question from our readers about the Princess Bride game is a simple one: Could you describe the gameplay? Is it a collection of mini-games? A point-and-click adventure?

A casual, narrative adventure game (controlled via mouse and spacebar) with elements and influences such as cartoons, platformers, management systems, quests, puzzles, carnival and rhythm games, unique inventory system and lots of great characters and story.

In making a videogame version of a movie as beloved as The Princess Bride, you’re opening yourself up to a lot of criticism from fans of the film. People have a real emotional attachment to it… Will this game destroy people’s cherished childhood memories like other shlocky videogame versions of classics have in the past? If not, why not?

No childhood memories will be harmed in the playing of this game! We certainly understand the expectations and as fans of the book and film, we share these same expectations. We strive to deliver a new kind of game that breaks the mold and delivers on the expectations of fans.

The game will feature dynamic animated versions of all your favorite characters, professional sound-alike voices, excellent writing, dialogue and storytelling – and most importantly emotionally engaging and addictive gameplay.

Will any of the cast of the movie have anything to do with the game?

Hopefullly…we are working on it.

What was one of the biggest hurdles you had to overcome in the development of this game?

Translating the story into fun gameplay while keeping the narrative.

To which audience do you intend to cater to? The thirty something crowd that will remember this as a cult classic from their childhood or their children who are seeing the movie for first time?

Both! In the spirit of the best of cartoons that cater to both children and adults, our game combines the best elements of casual and narrative gaming with the wonderful characters and adventures from the film. We believe this will deliver fun gameplay experiences for kids 8-13 years old as well as young adults 25-50 years old.

Is it possible to develop a game that’s truly enticing to both those segments?

We certainly hope so and we are working very hard to find the magical mix between casual and narrative gaming using various game engines with movie-quality animation to create a brand new kind of product. It may take a miracle, but thankfully we have Max on our side : )

How many “incothevable” jokes are in the game?

Quite a few…and they are pretty funny. At least if you mean what I think you mean?!

Is there a rhyming mini-game?

Check out the 20th Anniversary DVD from Fox (www.theprincessbride.com) for a fun Rhyming Game with Fezzik. Let us know what you think and maybe we will update the game with new questions on our website at princessbridegame.com

Can we play as Andre the Giant in a giant royal rumble against 30 men?

While we are still finalizing some level designs, if someone has to clear The Thieves Forest it will be Fezzik…he is the Brute Squad after all.

Well, thanks a lot!
